Presentation

The Prix Versailles recognizes exceptional architecture for commercial edifices and 2019 marks the fourth international edition of the prize, which has been endorsed by the International Union of Architects and UNESCO.

Candidates in the pre-selection phase entered into the following six regions: Africa and West Asia; Central America, South America and the Caribbean; North America; Central Asia and the Northeast; South Asia and the Pacific; Europe. Six different juries attributed prizes in four categories: Shops and Stores, Shopping Malls, Hotels and Restaurants. The Prix represents a unique effort to recognize the contribution of commercial architecture to society and the winners in all six categories as well as of the special Interior and Exterior prizes were announced on the occasion of a ceremony held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on 12 September 2019.

The entries were required to be composed of works completed between 1 February 2018 and 31 January 2019 with a minimum surface area of 100 m2.

Each continental jury member paid attention to exterior or interior structures, with a special focus on projects whose architects have undertaken a sustainable approach to commercial architecture, or which exhibit exemplary and inspirational architectural value.  Continental and special prizes for interiors and exteriors will also be awarded.

The World Judges Panel of nine jury members will be chaired by François de Mazières, Mayor of Versailles, France. The list of jury members and UIA representative will be announced shortly.
